Comparison of psychotropic drug preferences and side effects in old and young patients with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder

Purpose: The current study investigates the preferred psychotropic drug treatments and their tolerability in elderly patients (EP) with a diagnosis of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder compared to younger (YP).
 Materials Methods: included 154 EP 195 YP schizophrenia/schizoaffective admitted outpatient unit at university hospital last decade. medical records were reviewed. types doses antipsychotic drugs used by each patient, use other drugs, ongoing complaints, drug-related side effects compliance treatment also examined.
 Results: Second generation was higher (88% YP, 80% EP). Antipsychotic equivalent found 266.63 mg EP, 522.21 that group. clozapine (7% 37% YP) mood stabilizers (4.5% 18% YP.
